Privacy Policy

Bothy helps families keep track of their schedule. Here's what we collect and why.

When you sign up, we store your name and email. As you use Bothy, we store the events, tasks, and family members you add. When you forward an email or upload a photo, we store its contents so we can pull out the dates and details.

If you connect Google Calendar, we access it read-only, so your Google events show up next to your family's in Bothy. We don't write to your Google Calendar, and we don't share that data with anyone.

We protect your data with encryption. Your Google Calendar connection tokens are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and all data travels over encrypted connections.

Bothy's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

To read a forwarded email or a photo, we send its contents to Anthropic's AI, which finds the dates, times, and locations and returns them. Anthropic doesn't use your data to train its models. You confirm what gets added before anything lands on your calendar.

Services that help run Bothy

We use a small number of companies to run Bothy. They handle your data only to provide their service to us.

• Hetzner hosts our servers in Helsinki, Finland.
• Backblaze stores our encrypted nightly backups.
• Postmark receives the emails you forward to your Bothy address.
• Anthropic provides the AI that reads forwarded emails, photos and flyers to find events and tasks. Under its commercial terms, Anthropic does not use this content to train its models.
• Google syncs your calendar when you choose to connect it. You can disconnect at any time.
• Resend sends invitation emails.
• Expo delivers push notifications to your phone.
• Twilio — sends text alerts, only if you turn them on.
• Sentry receives error reports when something breaks, so we can fix it.

These companies may keep limited records, like delivery logs, for a short time under their own policies.

When a forwarded email includes images hosted on another website, such as a school newsletter service, Bothy downloads those images from that website to read them.

We don't sell your data. We don't show ads. We don't share your family's information with anyone outside the services listed above that make Bothy work.

Text messaging (SMS)

If you turn on text alerts, we use your mobile number only to send the account notifications you requested. We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile number or SMS opt-in consent with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. Text messaging originator opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties. We share your number only with our messaging provider (Twilio) to deliver messages on our behalf. You can turn off text alerts in Settings or reply STOP at any time.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account any time in the app under Settings, then Delete account. Before you confirm, the app shows exactly what will happen to each family you belong to.

If you're the only adult in a family, the whole family is deleted: events, tasks, forwarded emails, photos and files. If other adults remain, the family stays with them. Your personal details are removed, and anything the family still needs, like shared events and tasks, is moved to another adult. Your name is removed from the family's history.

Deletion happens right away. Your login stops working immediately, and your Google Calendar connection is disconnected at Google. Copies in our encrypted backups are deleted automatically within 30 days.

How long we keep your data

We keep your family's information, including forwarded emails and photos, for as long as your account or family exists. When it's deleted, it's gone from our systems immediately and from our backups within 30 days.

You can disconnect Google Calendar anytime in settings, which stops the sync and removes the synced events from Bothy. Email support@bothycal.com with any request.

If we change this policy, we'll update the date below, and for anything significant, we'll let you know in the app.
